These experiences are subjective, but not necessarily very different from those of others. The purpose of knowledge is not to find or explain some universal truth, but to help one organize and adapt to his or her world. Additionally, the collection of knowledge is not a stop and go process, it continues past the end of the school day and builds upon itself. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Classroom Scenario</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Little Jimmy is doing well in math. He knows all of his basic addition and subtraction facts and has no problem with the standard algorithms. He uses the vocabulary when talking about his work. It seems like he really understands these operations, right? Not necessarily. When Jimmy is given a word problem he automatically plugs the numbers into his set up in the order they appear in the problem. This doesn't always work because he does not understand what the problem is saying. This causes him to sometimes put the numbers in the wrong place in the problem. <br><br>Based on his experiences, Jimmy knows the process of addition and subtraction, but he cannot always make meaning of the word problems. Therefore, if there is any variation in the set up of a word problem, Jimmy plugs the numbers into the wrong order.<br><br>ex. Carly has 5 apples. Jason has 3 less apples than Carly. How many apples does Jason have?<br>5-3=2<br>ex. Jason has 3 less apples than Carly has. If Carly has 5 apples, how many apples does Jason have?<br>3-5=-2 ?????????</div>]]></description>

         <title>How does this learning theory apply to mathematics education</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It applies to mathematics education because the theory believes that students shouldn’t just know the process of mathematics. Instead, they should understand the meaning behind the process. For example, a student shouldn’t just memorize their multiplication facts. They should understand multiplication is finding the number of objects in a whole when there is a certain number of objects in each group.</div>]]></description>
