         <description><![CDATA[<div>#1: Edward Hopper combated the blissful images of television by showing an America full of loneliness and alienation.<br>#2:Painters broke with the conventions of Western art to create abstract expressionism in New York. This was widely regarded as the most significant artistic movement ever to come out of America.<br>#3: Abstract expressionists sought to express their subconscious and their dissatisfaction with post war life.<br>#4: Jackson Pollock gained fame through "action painting," pouring, dripping, and spattering the paint onto the canvas.<br>#5: Rothko covered his canvas with large rectangles, which he believed conveyed "basic human emotions."<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>#1:&nbsp; In the 1950s, minorities seemed to be shut out from living the American Dream.<br>#2:&nbsp; The Eisenhower Administration designed a program to deport millions of Mexican Americans who were languishing in urban American barrios, which are Spanish speaking districts of towns<br>#3:"I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me ..." A quote from Ralph Ellison, who tried to pinpoint American indifference to the plight of African Americans<br>#4: The Eisenhower policy of "Termination" ended federal support for tribes and provided relocation and job placement assistance. The government struggled to help with placing people in jobs.&nbsp;<br>#5: Beat-writers criticized middle-class materialism, racism, and uniformity in America, and also refused to submit to the 1950's conformity.<br><br></div>]]></description>
