In 1994 when I finished college, I happened to meet a former college senior who was running a private school that advertised "Learn English in 20 Days'. That day I visited her, she was short staffed and asked me to fill in. I facilitated a group discussion that day for one hour, which hooked me to teaching English to Adults.

Looking back, my father was a self-taught person who learned English by listening to the BBC 24/7 and studying the Cambridge 21st Century English Dictionary. That could have fuled my interest in teaching English as a language.

I was meant to teach. I think back on my life, and early on I was explaining math to friends and family. Back then, though I had no idea I would become a teacher, nor did I know how much I would love it. In college, I studied to become an engineer, but when it was time for me to enter the workforce, I knew I needed to teach. I taught preschool, high school, elementary school, and preschool again. I don't even think I knew what adult education was.

When my oldest daughter left for college, I was looking for something part-time. I was lucky to have a friend open the door to adult education for me. I remember feeling fearful about working with adults, but my fears were unfounded. Adult education is the best place to teach. I love the students who trust me to guide them towards their goals. I love my co-workers with their vision and enthusiasm and willingness. I love sharing what I know with others in hopes it will help them. Adult Education fills me with joy.

Always been drawn to education. I would often joke as a young adult that my ideal job would be to be a "professional student" so that could just keep taking classes and learn new things... My family migrated from Mexico when I was in middle school; I guess I saw school as a means to obtain a better life than where my parents had come from. I am a first generation college graduate and I studied Business Marketing & Communications. I spent close to 10 years working for companies usually in management roles. I was introduced early on to people management concept of "coaching" and did lots of training for individuals, small groups and large crowds. Little did I know that all this experience would lead to AE. After becoming a mommy and taking time off for my kids, I was looking for a meaningful and part-time opportunity. A neighbor spoke to me about Adult Ed and I began exploring my options. Soon I was knocking at CNAS. It fills my heart to be able to pass on my passion for education to adults. I see my family's journey in many of our students and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to serve them.
