         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>GUTHRIE, R.S. (Bob), M.B.</strong></p><p>June 27, 1949- September 3, 2025</p><p><br></p><p>Robert (Bob) Guthrie died September 3, 2025 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, at the age of 76.&nbsp; He passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside, after a 2-year battle with AML leukaemia.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Bob was born to William and Aila (nee Scott) Guthrie on June 27, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up as the oldest brother to 3 younger siblings, Dawn, Cheryl, and Kevin.&nbsp; </p><p><br></p><p>In 1968, at the age of 18, Bob joined the RCMP.&nbsp; He married his beloved wife and companion, Bernice (nee Grills) on September 26, 1970.&nbsp; After starting his career in Ontario, Bob was transferred to Alberta and he and Bernice were blessed with 3 children: Kimberley, Robin, and Scott. </p><p><br></p><p>In 1992, Bob was awarded the Medal of Bravery for rescuing an individual from a burning vehicle, while off duty.&nbsp;This award was a great honour. Bob worked for 36 years in the RCMP, retiring in 2004.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>After his “retirement”, Bob did contract security work and drove limousine. He told family he missed the driving and enjoyed the people.&nbsp;Bob loved to travel and travelled the world. When the kids were still at home, summer holidays were spent with the family in the motorhome, travelling across Canada and the US. In later years, Bob and Bernice enjoyed cruising, with his last cruise being a 4-month world tour.&nbsp; It was his 29th cruise.&nbsp; </p><p><br></p><p>Bob was an active member of the Alberta 5-Pin Association.&nbsp;He had a passion for bowling, sharing his knowledge as a coach, manager and as a past president.&nbsp;Bob was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.&nbsp;During the summer months, he enjoyed umpiring fastball and slow pitch for many years. </p><p><br></p><p>Bob loved flowers, sunsets, pointing out constellations and planets, going for a Sunday drive, ice cream, banana cream pie, and a good beer.&nbsp;He also appreciated a good thunderstorm. Bob loved music. Music or the radio was always being played at home. The Tenors were one of his favourites. He enjoyed playing cards with family, especially when challenged by his kids or grandkids. Visits with family meant lots of food, laughter and some serious games of Crib or Hearts. Bob enjoyed sports and frequently had a love/ hate relationship with the Edmonton Oilers.&nbsp;He loved his Toronto Blue Jays, even watching a live stream in the hospital, a few days before his passing.</p><p><br></p><p>Bob will be forever remembered by his wife of almost 55 years, Bernice, his children: Kimberley (Darryl), Robin (Leigh), Scott (Shauna), his grandchildren: Shawn, Halle, Kayla, Ansel, Alivia, his siblings Dawn (Jim), Kevin (Debbie) and numerous nieces and nephews. </p><p>He was predeceased by his parents, William and Aila, and his sister, Cheryl.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Peng Wang, his clinic staff, and especially Amy at the clinic office; the U of A Medical Outpatient Unit (MOU), with special acknowledgement to Tylene and Heather for making sure he always had a warm blanket during his countless transfusion appointments.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob’s name to the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta (CRINA). </p><p><br></p><p><strong>A Celebration of Life</strong> to remember Bob will be held on <strong>Sunday, September 28th </strong>starting at 1 pm at the Leduc Golf &amp; Country Club, 5725 Black Gold Dr. Leduc, Alberta. We encourage friends and family to come and share their stories of the man we love and miss.</p>]]></description>
