When I was in first grade, I really like the Greatest Illustrated Classics. I still like them. My favorite is Black Beauty, The Wizard of Oz, Frankenstein, and Alice in Wonderland! Those are great! They are really descriptive books, the words are bigger than a lot of chapter books, there's about a picture on every page, it is very easy to understand, and the chapters are shorter. They are on mostly a fifth grade level though. Even for Younger kids they will be easy to understand. Like if they were in 3rd grade! Happy reading!!!!!!!

When I was in third grade, I really enjoyed the warriors series. Erin Hunter is a amazing author, and she can use cats in a interesting way. She writes about four clans of cats who live by the "Warrior code". They only fight over prey and the forest. There is a main charecter, Fireheart, who starts as a house pet and becomes the most powerful cat in the forest. It's a great and exiting series and I think you should at least give it a shot. :-)
