The Scream Edvard Munch
-- Dali's piece seems slowed with emotion, almost depressing, while Munch's piece is screaming, and more anxiety inducing. The pieces colours are also different, Dali's has bright blues and earthy tones whilst Munch's has dark reds and blues. Dali's also creates a very sharp image, it has a clear foreground but no single focal point while Munch's has one singular focal point.

Fountain- Marcel Duchamp
-- Very odd household objects typically not seen as 'art', both are Dada, and both have a teasing feel to them, Dali asking why when he asked for a lobster he was "never given a boiled telephone."

1. May 11, 1904- January 23, 1989
2. Spanish; born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain
3. Surrealism, dada, modern art, & cubism
4. His art had extreme contrast in odd places, this amplifies the surrealism among other things. Certain art pieces were very geometrical with squares being emphasized with no true focal point- cubism. His art was very unique and absurd- dada. His art is also extremely experimental, each piece is different and by no means amplifies past techniques of past art periods which makes it practically the definition of modern art
5. Dali was born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. He was encouraged to do art as a child, his parents built him an art studio before he even went to art school, to which he later studied art in Madrid. In 1920's he went to France and began interacting with artists such as Picasso, which began his surrealist phase. The fascist leader Francisco Franco lead to Dali's expulsion from the surrealist movement but it did not completely end his painting career. Salvador Dali had an older brother born 9 months before him who was also named Salvador. His parents believed he was the reincarnation of his late brother.
