         <description><![CDATA[<p>-Matilda's Grandfather sneaks candy to her often</p><p>-Matilda goes to the market but there is not much because of the drought</p><p>-The Epler family knows that all the other farmers talk about fever, they recommend going to church</p><p>-Nathaniel Benson</p><p>-The church bell rings, another dead</p><p>-Nathaniel mentions Polly and Matilda and him both mourn, quietly and quickly</p><p>-Another week of  heat and Matilda vows to never complain about cold again</p><p>-Matilda's Grandfather prefers the heat</p><p>-He is thinking of finding a husband for Matilda</p><p>-Discussing what to do with extra earnings</p><p>-Matilda does not want a husband</p><p>-Matilda and her mother are invited for tea with the Ogilvies</p><p>-Her mother wants her to find a husband but she refuses to talk to Edward Ogilvie, the only candidate</p><p>-Her grandfather says she looks like a china doll but Matilda says she will break just as easy</p><p>-Later they arrive at the Ogilvie grand mansion</p><p>-A maid comes to the door and shows them to a room as large as the first floor of the coffee shop, Matilda is amazed</p><p>-Pernilla has three daughters the oldest one being Collette and another one named Jeannine</p><p>-Collette seems tired and has been complaining of illness but her mother thinks it's a joke later she turns out to have the fever and faints</p><p>-Collette was recently engaged</p><p>-People are fleeing because of yellow fever</p><p>-The church bells continued to toll with deaths and the heat and abundance of mosquitoes continued</p><p>-Many more were fleeing wealthy and not</p><p>-Matilda's grandfather believes it will be over soon but it's just the beginning</p><p>-Over a hundred have died</p><p>-Many shops are closing</p><p>-Matilda and her grandfather and walking when they see a figure pushing a cart, inside the cart is her mother, she had fainted because of the heat</p><p>-Matilda's mother had fallen ill but not with yellow fever according to Mr. Rowley but he seems like a charlatan</p><p>-Matilda's mother is very ill, her eyes are streaked with yellow and she coughed up blood, she has a fever</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>-They will try to return home, slowly</p><p>-The farmer had took their belongings</p><p>-Matilda tries to borrow blankets and pay for a meal from the people around but no one is willing to take the risk of catching the fever</p><p>-After eating nothing but berries for two days Matilda stumbled upon some pears</p><p>-The world seemed wrong for a moment, everything was cold, then Matilda fainted, fever</p><p>-Matilda is found by people wondering if she is dead, if so they would take her to the pit with the other whom had fallen</p><p>-Matilda woke from her fever dream, she was in a room with other victims of the fever</p><p>-Her grandfather did not have the fever</p><p>-Ms. Flagg told her she was at Bush Hill, Matilda wanted to return home but was too weak</p><p>-Her grandfather brought her there</p><p>-Matilda is worried but her grandfather and Ms. Flagg told her there is nothing to worry about, she doesn't care if her grandfather is head over heels in love and she doesn't care if she is weak, she wants to return home with all of her heart</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>-Many stories of the fever had been passed around Bush Hill</p><p>-On the tenth day Matilda was visited by a doctor, Dr. Deveze</p><p>-She was moved to a barn, surprisingly clean</p><p>-Where was her mother and Eliza?</p><p>-When she was better they thought it was best to send her to an orphanage because her father was dead and they couldn't contact her mother</p><p>-The clerk recommended this but Matilda's grandfather would not allow this to happen to ANY of his relatives as long as he lived</p><p>-The clerk does not want Matilda wandering the streets, there are too many, but her grandfather says that all will be fine</p><p>-They are heading back to Philadelphia</p><p>-Ms. Bowles, along with five kids going to the orphanage, are in the wagon with Matilda and her grandfather</p><p>-Ms. Bowles says that matilda could stay at the orphanage, not as an orphan but as an employee, they would keep her warm and well fed</p><p>-Matilda says that her grandfather would not allow her</p><p>-Ms. Bowles warns her to be careful, for the city has become more dangerous</p><p>-The post office has closed down</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>-Yellow rags marked houses of the victims of the yellow fever</p><p>-Matilda and her grandfather fled on the 8th</p><p>-It seems that when the temperature is higher the amount of dead will be to</p><p>-The Potter's Field is where people are burying most of the dead</p><p>-After Mrs. Bowles got off right near the orphanage they soon arrived in philadelphia</p><p>-The front door of the shop was open</p><p>-The shop had been ransacked, all food and things of value had been stolen</p><p>-Upstairs remained normal except for the stench of sickness and the fact her mother was gone</p><p>-Their strong box had been untouched, their money was safe</p><p>-The cat, Silas, was still there</p><p>-The garden was dead and overgrown by weeds</p><p>-Matilda baerly found food, but she did</p><p>-Matilda normally bathed once a month</p><p>-Her grandfather is worried, he does not think it's safe to leave the house</p><p>-Matilda was mostly does things like watering the garden</p><p>-Thieves broke in in the middle of the night</p><p>-Matilda has noticed and is unsure what to do, they don't see her</p><p>-She remains silent until one of the thieves almost hits her with a blade, she screams</p><p>-Her grandfather wakes up with all the racket, he is armed</p><p>-The thief attacks him, he is severely injured</p><p>-Soon Matilda's grandfather dies of his injuries</p><p>-She helps the man pushing the cart with the bodies</p><p>-She is the one who reads the prayer for her grandfather when he gets buried</p><p>-She is alone</p><p>-Matilda wanders around and stumbles upon a broken china doll, then she hears whimpering, there is a girl whose mother had died</p><p>-The girl's name is Nell</p><p>-Matilda continues to find a home for Nell when she sees some woman, one that looks like Eliza</p><p>-They are soon out of sight</p><p>-A woman hanging laundry tells her to check the Simon house</p><p>-She finds Eliza just before she visits another house</p><p>-All the tears that Matilda has held in pour out</p><p>-Eliza takes Matilda and Nell to her brother's house</p><p>-Matilda fills Eliza in on EVERYTHING</p><p>-Some people think that Black people can't get the fever</p><p>-Everyone and everything is waiting for the frost</p><p>-Matilda is getting used to the life at the house</p><p>-Mother Smith warns Matilda not to get too attached to Nell</p><p>-Soon Matilda and Eliza attempt to take Nell to the orphanage but it really is the last resort</p><p>-Nell will stay with Matilda for now</p><p>-Eliza tells Matilda a story then Nell picks up a daisy, there is a trail of daisies, dropped by someone</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>-The person dropping the flowers is  Nathaniel Benson, Matilda is falling in love with him, slowly</p><p>-Eliza and her family decided that it's best Matilda and Nell stay with them</p><p>-Two days later Mother Smith had to help out a family of eight children whose mother had died</p><p>-Joseph thinks that Matilda is great help</p><p>-Matilda is running errands with Eliza for the next few days</p><p>-The errands are things like deliveries and checking on patients, this brought heartache to Matilda, seeing lives and families destroyed</p><p>-It's October but it still feels like July because of the intense heat, every now and then it cools down a bit but soon after it's hot again</p><p>-Rumors have spread, each of them making the picture of what's really going on more confusing</p><p>-There is barely any flour left, same is true with other food and ingredients too</p><p>-Sawdust was used to make bread in the War, it did not taste anything near pleasing</p><p>-Eliza mentions the Sharp family as one of the visits they must make, fever tore the family apart</p><p>-They approach the house, it is a wreck because Mr. Sharp went insane before he died</p><p>-Ms. Sharp wants to hold on to all she has left, she has become slightly paranoid</p><p>-At dark they arrive at the Collbran house, the last Collbran had died but they still had to wash the sickroom</p><p>-The last stop was the Gundy sisters, the Gundy sisters were seamstresses, someone from the Society told Eliza to go there before she retired</p><p>-They get home but Joseph is not himself, Nell and Joseph's sons, Robert and William, have fallen ill</p><p>-They need cold air but it's too hot, Matilda suggests taking them to the empty coffeehouse to cool down</p><p>-They are bringing the kids to the coffeehouse, they will attempt to treat the kids themselves</p><p>-Caring for them was hard, they were in constant pain and terror due to the fever</p><p>-On the fifth day at the coffee house the children were incredibly weak, Matilda says they need the french doctors</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>-Matilda says the children should not be bled, Eliza and Joseph agree</p><p>-Matilda is weaker and very tired, she rests on the ground, never bringing the bucket with water back to the kids</p><p>-When Matilda wakes there is frost on the ground, they will bring the kids outside</p><p>-The fever is ending</p><p>-Farmers and other people are coming back</p><p>-Matilda thought it was a dream at first but it's reality</p><p>-Her and Eliza are bringing the furniture outside to get rid of the fever germs</p><p>-The children are better now</p><p>-The market is open, Joseph recommends going there to search for Matilda's mother</p><p>-Mrs. Epler gives Matilda two chickens and lots of eggs as a gift</p><p>-Ms. Epler will ask people if they seen Matilda's mother</p><p>-Prices are very cheap, Matilda bought candy for herself and the kids</p><p>-Matilda thinks of what she will do next, then she find Nathaniel</p><p>-Nathaniel thinks Matilda's mother will be back soon, but Matilda's worried about what will happen if she never does</p><p>-Everyone that survived is slowly returning, making the city look like itself again, </p><p>-The family and Nell and Matilda have a small feast of gratitude, Joseph and Eliza think Matilda's mother had died and that she should sell the coffeehouse</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>-Matilda wants to run the coffeehouse by herself and a partner, Eliza</p><p>-After a lot of discussing Mother Smith says that Eliza will do so</p><p>-Eliza doesn't really have a choice so she agrees</p><p>-A messenger says comes and says that a warehouse is now open and is good for the coffeehouse's business, Matilda thanks him</p><p>-Three days after they opened the coffeehouse it was packed and very lively</p><p>-Matilda wants to visit Polly's mother on Sunday</p><p>-Nathaniel is selling his paintings, he already sold two</p><p>-Matilda's life is going good, except she misses how life used to be, before the fever</p><p>-Nathaniel bursts into the coffeehouse</p><p>-George Washington has returned and is coming down High Street</p><p>-Eliza stays but Matilda goes with him</p><p>-The street is very crowded to see the president</p><p>-Matilda kisses Nathaniel on the cheek out of joy</p><p>-There were carriages following because if the president returned the epidemic was really over</p><p>-A woman and the driver steps out of a carriage to help down another woman</p><p>-Matilda's mother has returned</p><p>-She had survived and stayed with the Ludington family until the first frost</p><p>-Everyone in the coffeehouse kinda salutes her</p><p>-Matilda's mother is weak and cannot run the coffeehouse anymore</p><p>-Mrs. Ludington leaves after they catch Matilda up on what happened</p><p>-Matilda tells her mother what happened while she was away</p><p>-They are closer than ever now</p><p>-Matilda is the first one up</p><p>-The city looks like the epidemic never happened</p><p>-It still haunts Matilda but she focuses on the good things in life, like family</p>]]></description>
