At least 50 people were alleged to have been apart of this scandal, a number of which were accused for paying over 25 Million to William Rick Singer, an Admissions Councillor and the known leader of the admissions scheme. Olivia Jade Giannulli, known more so as Olivia Jade, is known for her social media presence and is a well known YouTube Vlogger and celebrity. She recently as asked by Sephora, known for their make up brand and for carrying several high end make up brands in their stores, to work alongside them in creating a collection influenced by her. Many students said that it was proof that those who come from more affluent families have a much easier time making their way into post secondary school and that the admissions system is unfair and unjust. Recently the US courts have been showing leniency to the families who have participated in the scandal. Instead, the parents are being given Criminal Complaints rather than formal indictments. The public is rightfully outraged as it seems that not only were these family able to pay their way into Ivy League school that most students only dream of attending, but they are also able to get out of criminal charges. Satirical comics are used to bring awareness to a certain point and give people an "Ah-Huh" moment but also poke fun at things that are so huge that people aren't sure how to handle it. This scandal is the perfect thing to satirize because its something that affects everyone. This post outline the way the two classes are viewing the scandal. On one hand, to those who come from affluent families, making a few calls or offering a little more money to help your kids gain the right footing seems like no big deal. However, if someone doesn't have the money its seen as being a selfish choice. This instagram post made by E News includes Olivia Jade's direct quotes on her stance on getting a post secondary education. According to Olivia Jade, she was more excited for the college parties and the social events than attending classes and studying to earn a degree. As Olivia Jade watches as the life she has made for herself as a Social Media Mogule crumbles in front of her, she has begun pointing fingers at her parents saying it was all their fault and that she has nothing to do with it. She is currently working hard to try to keep her following despite the poor publicity.
