Whittier Elementary - Salina - Mrs. Pierce had such a kind heart. She played piano as part of our lessons, putting things to song to help us learn social studies. We sang a lot, and in hind site, I realize how much reading she motivated us to do through music. Thank you Mrs. Pierce!

I was in the sixth grade. I had a bad overbite and pop-bottle glasses. Mrs. Legleiter made me feel human again. She praised my writing; she inspired me to work harder; and she helped me see that good things were in my future. When I graduated from college, she sent me a note. I still have it today. She is no longer with us, but she will always be alive with me. I really appreciate her support.
--Laurie Denk

Mrs. Jagger was my third grade teacher at Concordia Elementary School. She was a very loving teacher. She always made me feel special. Her positive energy is what I remember the most about her. She would take time to listen and have conversations with all of us. Mrs Jagger made all kids feel important!

Mr. Steinert was my 5th grade teacher at Concordia Middle School. He made a connection with me right away. He would reach out to me and make sure that I was always ok. I had some anxiety as a school kid, and he constantly made sure that I was doing OK! He always had positive energy and would make learning FUN! I love that Mr. Steinert is now the counselor at Smoky Valley and we get to teach in the same district!

It was teachers like him and Mrs. Jagger that made me want to be a teacher!

~Jenny Tischhauser

Pep Pérez was my 5th grade teacher in Escola Espiga, Catalonia. He made me feel smart and made me fall in love with reading. He was the first teacher to tell my parents how good I was at school and that encouraged me to work harder. He always asked students what we thought of characters, plots, and validated our opinions. We weren't afraid to ask questions.
Laia Dietz

I had Miss Jessie McPheron in my 4th grade year. I have to admit I was kind of scared of her at the time. It was in the day when she was allowed to have a paddle in the closet and she used it. I can still see her hunkered down in her long tweed coat on a cold recess day watching us play on the playground. But...Miss Mcpherson cared for us and we knew it. She taught us good penmanship, our math facts, how to behave in the classroom, how to treat others and to love learning. She encouraged us to pursue what we loved to do, pointing out our strengths and giving us opportunities to try things and learn things in those areas. She came to all our concerts and plays and events through our school years. Of course she received an invitation to my graduation and my wedding. My appreciation for her grows as I continue in teaching. I think of her often.
