1.Context

The context of the activity is debate about something. Three groups, agree, diagree,and devil's advocate to develop critical thinking by exploring a topic from multiple perspectives.

2. Language focus:

The debate topic focus more on functional language skills. For example, I agree to go to school at 8:00 am. Because I think we can have more time to have breakfast at home. And breakfast is very important.

3. Principles

We think the task is purposeful because each group has to do their job. It's authentic because everyone has different opinions in daily life. The task is also interactive and productive. Students need to interact with each other and produce language to express their thoughts. The task, however, is a little bit more challenging for students because our students' language ability is limited.

4. Adaptation

Debate could be a challenge for primary students as they have limited vocabulary and need support of developing critical thinking skills. We could simplify the speaking activity to two groups of pros and cons, and provide guided sentence structures and a word bank. Also, we could choose topics that are relevant to their life experiences.

To engage students, different activities will be created for various groups. The singing group will sing the chant together, the drawing group will illustrate ideas from it, the acting group will perform skits, and the dancing group will move to the chant by playing and stopping at key moments.

Additionally, the activity promotes inclusive education by accommodating different learning styles.

*What are you most proud of?
Based on peer feedback, I believe the best part of my teaching was using fingertips to teach the syllabus, using gestures to support meaning, adding rhythm with the sentence pattern, and practicing sentence patterns through catchy beats.

*What might you do differently next time?
When students first practice saying “I like ___ (sports),” I can let the whole class recite the question part “What sports do you like?” I can demonstrate with a student before the students stand up. This can help them focus more on the explanation.

*What questions still remain for you?

In elementary schools, listening and speaking are often the most challenging skills for students to learn, especially in the EFL context. How to design suitable listening and speaking materials is a question I still need to explore further.

First, I'll use wordwall game to sequence the song lyrics order. I think it's a good idea to let students pay attention the song.

Second, story reading a aloud technique I experienced on the course is fantastic. I'll use it in my English class.

Thirdly, I would like to try let students draw on the padlet and write down sentecnes on it.

The first one is KISS principle strategy: keep it simple and short. The second one is jigsaw technique: make a cooperative learnig more possible and meaningful.
