The first thing that really resonated with me was the question of whether or not children really understand what they are reading.

This is important to me as a literacy teacher as I've always wondered this, and really asked myself how can I really get my students to understand what they are reading. Can the students just read the words or can they reconstruct meaning?

I found it very interesting how the teacher introduced notion thinking aloud by getting students to think in their head and to write their questions on a post it note. This is such a great idea and I thought it was great how she demonstrated this technique first.

This is very important for literacy teachers to know as we are to use these techniques to help our students learn and think deeply.

What also resonated with me was the power of choice. It is so important that students enjoy what they are reading and therefore we ae to give them the opportunity to chose what they want to read

I need to make sure as a future educator that I let students make their own choices, specifically what they want to read as they will learn more.

How students reflect and the text and make connections is super interesting! This really shows how children are very intelligent young learners. Specifically when the young girl made a connection to her reading of "The Sick Day" and she remembered when she was sick and then her dog got sick, she said, "when I read this it sounded like my own life.."

This is important to us as teachers as when we see students make connections with the text we know that they are learning and constructing meaning from what they are reading and our techniques we are giving them.
