The teacher wanted W pictures but she thought that Hollis's picture wasn't a W picture. Hollis tried to tell the teacher the picture was for the words wish, want, and wouldn't it be loverly. The teacher didn't  listen though and Hollis then got in trouble for putting an X through a kid who was being mean to her picture. 


How does this relate to the theme

This relates to the theme not everything is how it seems because it is showing that the picture wasn't how it was shown. The teacher wanted a W picture but the teacher was only looking at the visual picture not the meaning of the picture. Also in  a lot of other drawings she sees how much the old man loves steven but hollis thought that she had been ruining the family but if she was there or not the old man would never stop loving steven. 

How does this relate to that theme

This relates to the theme because it is shown how even if steven and the old man fight and act like they hate each other they won't stop loving each other. Hollis looked closer at the picture and finally saw that the picture was of her in a row boat. When she had seen the picture at first she thought it was something different and never even thought that it could be a picture of her. 

How does this relate to the theme

This relates to the theme because it is showing that Hollis had no clue what the picture was but then when she found out she was shocked because it wasn't what she thought it was.
