         <description><![CDATA[<div>The impact of long-term stresses can be understood by examing the body's defenses against stress, a pattern known as General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). GAS is a series of three stages (Alarm Reaction, Stage of Resistance, &amp; Stage of Exhaustion) of stress response to prolonged stress.  Selye (1976) noticed that the first symptoms of almost any disease or trauma (poisoning, infection, injury, or stress) are almost identical. The body responds in much the same way to any stress.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In this stage, your body mobilizes to cope with added stress. The pituitary gland signals the adrenal glands to produce more adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol. Stress hormones are dumped into the bloodstream  to speed up some body processes and slow others down.This allows the bodily resources to be applied where they are needed.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During this stage, bodily adjustments to stress stabilize. As the body's defenses come into balance, symptoms of the alarm reaction disappear. The body is able to cope with the original stressor, bu its resistance to other stresses is lowered. It is during this stage that the first signs of psychosomatic disorders (physical disorders triggered by psychological factors) begin to appear.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Continued stress leads to this stage, in which the body's resources are drained and stress hormones are depleted. Some of the typical signs or symptoms of impending exhaustion include the following: <br>Emotional Signs: Anxiety, apathy, irritability, mantal fatigue.<br>Behavioral Signs: Avoidance of responsibilities and relationships, extreme or self-destructive behavior, self-neglect, poor judgement.<br>Physical signs: Excessive worry about illness, frequent illness, exhaustion, overuse of medicines, physical ailments and complaints.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A young male college student has his eye on this beautiful female student that is in one of his classes. Everytime that he wants to talk to her, his breathing gets shallowed and the butterflies start welling up in his stomach, which is part of the Alarm Reaction. His body goes into the Stage of Resistance, by allowing him to take some deep breaths and settle down. The young male is showing signs of anxiety/nervousness, which is part of the Stage of Exhaustion, when it comes to talking to this young lady. His friends try to help break his nervousness towards girls. </div>]]></description>
