I learned that the University of Oxford created a vaccine (R21) that targets the Malaria parasite. It is said to be more effective and targets the parasite better than the previous vaccine developed by RSK. Though both can be effective in their own ways, the University of Oxford believes has had real world tests straight from the source where Malaria effects the most babies, Africa. If manufactured at the right amount these Malaria vaccines can be created to end child deaths from this gruesome disease, malaria.

A new malaria cure called R21 has been developed by scientists at Oxford University with a 80% success rate when tested on 409 children in Nanoro, Burkina Faso. Malaria, a detrimental disease targeting babies, is difficult to fight, taking over a century to develop effective vaccines. R21 is said to be superior to the first vaccine developed by GSK in 2021, due to its low cost and effectiveness. Many are optimistic about the impact this vaccine will have, some saying that malaria may be conquered within their lifetimes, and 100 million doses are planned to be manufactured a year by the Serum Institute of India.

It has been approved by Ghana, and the World Health Organization might approve this vaccine. Over 100 million doses of the vaccine will be produced each year, and it will be very cheap.

Since Malaria kills around 620,000 people a year, mostly young children, the vaccine's effectiveness in children ages 5 months to 3 years old is expected to be revolutionary in decreasing deaths and malaria's eventual elimination.

However, their experience is conditioned by extraordinary situations. The conditions they live under give them specific reasons to listen to music, such as processing trauma and working through tough times, financially and emotionally. Music in homeless young people plays a strong role in connecting to the world through community, understanding, and struggle.

There are efforts for how it is going to be manufactured, but I predict it will be difficult to actually put it into the hands of people, since they can be in remote areas. Also, even though the vaccine only costs a few dollars, that is still to much for some impoverished families to afford, so how will they go about treating these individuals?

Mosquitos have been rapidly reproducing at a continuous rate that just keeps increasing since 2013. Staying outside has become a greater risk each year in Ghana and it just gets worse. each case of malaria can take five days or more to recover from, this causes mass amounts of workers to be unable to work consistently. as more mosquitos reproduce the more the economy suffers. Surprisingly, one of the best ways to prevent malaria, besides a vaccine, is to use a bed net. due to the habits of mosquitos, they tend to be most active in the night. that is when most people contract or catch malaria. and with bed nets it deters and keeps mosquitos out lowering your chance of catching this disease by over 100% bed nets also come at a cheap price of 49 $ of the Ghana currency or around 1 dollar in united states money.

That said, the homeless communities' access to technology, and therefore music, may become more limited as time goes by.
