But the modern world offers more ways to edit and select carefully who or what to follow. Also, the opportunity is available to continue to be active online; to continually make choices about your online presence and education.

Allows you to build an online community. Community is important to foster learning and to share triumphs and failures alike.

You have to be vigilant about your online presence and how you represent yourself. Professionalism must be maintained in the public sphere, especially online where anything can be accessed by anyone.

Allows you to foster techniques and habits for life-long learning. This can be a huge factor in instilling the same behavior in your students.

Be aware that not everyone will agree with you and some will say so. Welcome it as an opportunity for discussion and growth. But remember online discussion is missing the more subtle non-verbal communication we use everyday; act accordingly, be mindful and polite.
