The National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA was created in the US in 1958. NASA became important in the space race because the program was used to develop certain objects that were sent to space to explore. These objects explored both within and outside Earth's atmosphere.

Why was president Kennedy’s proclamation of getting a man to the moon so important? What does this have to do with the project Apollo?

President Kennedy thought that sending a man to the moon was important because of the stress from the Cold War and the nerves between the Soviets and the US. He wanted to be the first to succeed in the race and putting man-life on the moon would get him there.

How has the space race changed after the Cold War?

The space changed by spawning pioneering efforts to launch artificial satellites. Also, it helped competitive countries to send unmanned space probes. Lastly, it made possible human spaceflight in low earth orbit and also to the moon. This was important in the space race because many things were improved after the war and it became less dangerous.

What country would be the first to actually reach space and what accomplished for them? How did this continue to create competition?

The Soviet Union was the first country to make it to space. The name of the guy that created it was Yuri Gagarin. They launched artificial satellites and had a human spaceflight program. This was important in the space race because it continued to create competition for other countries while the Soviets were ahead of other people in success.

What are 3 ways the space race created competition between the US and USSR?

While the space race was started by the Soviet Union, the US won, it created jealousy in other countries to be better than them. Other countries wanted to win due to seeing opposing countries having better technology. Next, the Soviet Union tried 4 times to send a Lunar landing craft to space but failed each time, this caused anger between the Soviets. The Soviets were getting tired of failing and wanted to win, so they continued, but the Lunar landing craft couldn't be launched. Lastly, the US and the USSR outperformed each other and as this caused benefits of progression in science, it also caused jealousy to try to be better than the other countries and rivalries in other countries.

What 3 comparisons could be made in technology in the present to the impact made by the space race?

One comparison today is that satellites stayed the same but became more advanced. Also, during the first space race, things were heated but not to an extent, in today's world, the space race is more modern and stable but things are still dangerous. Lastly, It quadrupled in size over time, it benefited our lives because more people are now competing in the race and our earth is more safer and is keeping old satellites out.
