All students have experience playing basketball in first year PE; as well as this, it is expected that the majority of students are familiar with the game and will have played basketball recreationally at some stage of their lives. Students have already completed modules on Minor Games and HRA this year. It is expected that the students will learn to acquire and apply the skills of Basketball quickly. In addition, Davis College has a strong Basketball background, and thus some students may engage in the game of Basketball as an extra-curricular activity.

 

Students should be capable of applying the fundamental movement skills that they developed through their participation in their previous schemes.  There are varying levels of ability in the class in terms of balance and coordination so it is important to keep all students adequately challenged.  Nonetheless from a basketball specific skill perspective these pupils are essentially novices, and this will be evident in the design of the lessons

 

 

In general, student’s attitude towards PE is positive. I informed students after midterm break that they’d be playing Basketball and everyone appeared excited by this. The only issue with student’s attitude is that they can be lively at times and a firm hand is needed on occasion. However participation levels in PE with this class are at a very high level and this would suggest that PE is a subject which the pupils are enjoying.  It is this sort of positive attitude that I will be looking to build on in this scheme.

- Perform some of the skills of basketball to varying degrees but it is hoped that they will improve e.g.passing shooting dribbling.
