How did they bring about change?

The main way that Kaepernick has brought about change has been through awareness of the topic. Kaepernick himself is not responsible for any actual legislation against racial injustice and police brutality, but what he has been able to do is bring enough attention to the topic to get other people involved who are bringing about tangible change for the topic.

The movement that Kaepernick is fighting for is racial injustice and police brutality. Kaepernick claims that the country "oppresses black people and people of color" and decided to take action to make change.

The main and most notable of his actions was kneeling during the National Anthem before NFL games. This was done in protest relating to the movement that he was trying to promote and nothing else, such as the military like many sources have tried to claim. After his playing days were over, he was and still is active in promoting his stance related to racial injustice and police brutality, writing a memoir and being very active on social media and in-person protests.

What strategies did they employ?

The main strategy that Kaepernick employed to promote his ideas was inciting outrage among the public. Kneeling during the National Anthem is seen as highly disrespectful to the military and those who have lost their lives to preserve the nation's freedom, so when Kaepernick kneeled to protest something, people were outraged. This ended up leading to lots of coverage of Kaepernick and his ideas which spread like wildfire due to the media. Overall, Kaepernick was able to get his word out there by kneeling during the National Anthem.

Are they effective? How do we know their activism is successful?

In my opinion, Kaepernick's activism is and has been extremely successful. Although he is no longer in the league, many players on other teams still kneel during the National Anthem for the same reason as Kaepernick did when he was playing. This doesn't just happen in the NFL either. During the summer of 2020 in the NBA Bubble in Orlando, Florida, nearly every NBA player and the staffs of the teams would kneel during the anthem before games. This occurs in many sports all over the country and now even the world, all started by Kaepernick. All and all, if Kaepernick's goal was to bring more attention to the issue, then his activism has been wildly successful.
