While I tend to focus on Social Studies, this can easily be used for LA, English, Science, and math. Classroom Jeopardy is great way to get your students engaged and provide informal assessment.

It is a wonderful behavior management tool which provides instant feedback to students. You can connect this app to any number of technology platforms (desktop, laptop, tablet). The nice thing about this app is it can provided data of how your classroom is doing as a whole, or generate reports for the individual student.

Why not make it easier and more cost efficient, by bringing some of these places to your classroom. I have chosen this site because the possibilities of what you can see are endless. For one example you can tour the great wall of china. Why are field trips important? You are providing a visual to the things you are teaching. A text book will not provide the amazement and intrigue as getting to actually see the things you are talking about. Need a science lesson on the solar system? They have that. Need help working on English with your classroom? This site provides more than just fieldtrips, it is a tech for teachers resource haven with information on how to start your own classroom blog or prepare your students for specific tests.

I have chosen this article because it hits so many things that we need in our instruction. Things like community, personal responsibility, critical thinking, etc. Using technology can help move us from a teacher driven classroom into a place where students wish to have control of their own learning.

Accessed 18 Mar. 2017. ]]> 2017-03-17 13:24:07 UTC https://padlet.com/burke1hf/ad9i1glrkq1n/wish/160785427 Technology Study burke1hf https://padlet.com/burke1hf/ad9i1glrkq1n/wish/160856807 When I had found this study, I was hoping for a stronger correlation of technology with student achievement in the main content areas, but was surprised to find that technology can help with much more. 

Through the first research question: "What is the effect of Technology Immersion on students’ learning opportunities (i.e., classroom activities, engagement)? the study found that technology usage (in this case a laptop for every student) there was a more student centered education and overall increased student engagement.

But the real surprising find (in my opinion) was in regards to behavior. Students "exhibited stronger engagement in academic work through more positive classroom behavior." Due to the use of technology, students had fewer disciplinary actions and fewer absences/late arrivals. The study had shown a direct correlation that the "disciplinary actions decreased as the number of computers per student increased".

Research question #2: Does Technology Immersion affect student achievement?
While the study did not find an increase in Mathematics, it did find that students began using computers for educational programs at home more often and spent less time watching tv.  It also found that technology in the classroom "minimized the proficiency gap between economically disadvantaged students to advantaged students". That particular finding warmed my heart. If we can truly provide an education equal for all of our students, lets consider technology as a vessel for this.

The last finding was about the teachers:  "Data found complications with how ready the teachers were to implement technology in their classrooms." Don't be that teacher who shuns technology, use this study, and this padlet overall to realize a students learning style is changing to a world surrounded by technology, and it is time that we evolve as well.

I do not expect every classroom to have all of the newest technology. This article was chosen because it explains how to use what you might already have within your classroom. For Example: If you only have one computer in your classroom, you can still use sites like brainpop. It would also be wonderful to start a classroom blog. During Language Arts, you can assign a student to be a "word warrior" who researches difficult words that you come across. The purpose of this article is to show that no matter what you have in your classroom, you can still find ways to incorporate technology.

Created this year, skype is now offering a collaboration platform for educators. I was so excited to learn about this site. It offers 5 different ways to engage. The two I was most excited about is the Guest Speakers and Skype Lessons. Skype Lessons have multiple themed lessons for your classroom which offers an expert in the field to teach your class. Guest Speakers is an awesome way to bring someone from across the world to come and talk to your class. I have chosen this because you may use this as a new collaboration tool for your school, your classroom, as well as a new way to find engaging lessons.
