1) The person is sitting in his house, probably in the bathroom, in summer. He is admiring nature paying attention to birds sitting on trees.

2) In the first half of the chapter he contemplates about how he spent his last summer. In the middle of the chapter he recalls his childhood and the place where he grew up. In the conclusive part of the chapter he compares himself to a bird.

3) Not really. The chapter is more about memories and the thought process of the character rather than any events in particular and that is why it is not as exciting.

4) No because there is no implication in the plot that something extraordinary will happen to the character.

5) The 1st part - memories about summer. The 2nd part - memories about childhood. The 3rd part - comparing oneself to a bird.

6) The character remembers the summer, when he used to take a bath then sit in a sunny doorway from sunrise till noon amongst solitude and different kinds of trees. He recalls the seasons of his childhood when he grew like corn in the night and he discusses how the hours went by. Then he remembers the mornings, the evenings, the nights and how he listened to birds singing and how he was smiling at that.

7) Birds, summer, pines, hickories, sumachs, days. These are the words which describe the overall atmosphere of the chapter (they are repeated several times). They symbolize nature.

1. Walden depicts his dream scene through his transcendent style of narrative. The reader can easily understand by visualizing what is being told on the scene. For the student and for the general reader, this is the ideal presentation of Thoreau's great document of social criticism and dissent. The way the author talks about the scene may get the audience to conclude whatever they understand from the text. His social and daily experiences are being told in his unique way of narrative. For instance, he uses metaphoric expression as if the schoolboy enjoys the birds and buildings around him.

2. His use of language may seem to be so challenging to understand but in fact, these words are exclusively selected by the author so that the students may feel as if they exist in the mentioned context/atmosphere.

1. The main character depicts his summer experience, his feelings in details.
2. Reminder of the lapse of time.
3. Yes, the detailed description is surprising.
4.We were expecting some eventful description.
5. 1) Sitting in a doorway
2) noise of the traveller's vagon
3) flowing of the day
6. The events in the chapter are correlated with the world and the language of the novel. To be precise, chronological order of each event justifies the fact that the writer deeply enjoys the company of nature and he is capable of turning his feelings into words.
7. The bloom of the present moment, summer morning, stillness, from sunrise till noon, lapse of time.
