Consumer Marketing Research - A Quick Look

We've all heard of the phrase "the customer is always right". Many businesses have been founded upon that idea, and while most people believe that is simply a premise, those in the know take it for Gospel truth. All good businesses and companies know that the ideas, likes, dislikes, and opinions of their customers matter. The products and service that they sell are all subjective to the likes of their customers. Although companies will have the last say on the look or ingredients of a certain product, the fact that it exists is due to a certain amount of demand from a large consumer source.

This is where consumer marketing research kicks in. Just as the name suggests, consumer marketing research is targeted on a group or niche of individuals with the goal of gathering data about their likes and their opinions as a baseline for product production or improvement.

There are a number of ways to conduct consumer marketing research, some of which are pretty obvious while others are covert or unexpected. The more obvious ones involve interviews and surveys, which have been around since forever and are only revamped to fit our modern times. For instance, many so-called survey sites these days pay people money upon completion of the surveys. In addition, aside from the monetary compensation, consumers get other perks, which makes the entire experience enjoyable. So if you want a fun and productive way to use your time, you can get paid for taking surveys.

Of course, there are some people who consider surveys to be annoying and a waste of time, and while online surveys are currently the most inexpensive methods of marketing research, the results taken from such surveys are sometimes unreliable for lack of a proper population control. However, through paid surveys, consumers have a motivating factor to complete the surveys and answer them honestly. Both consumers and businesses engage in a win-win situation - consumers are compensated for their valuable time while businesses get the information they need.

Another more effective method of consumer marketing research is monitoring product popularity in online shops. What most of us don't realize is that we're actually being monitored when we are shopping. That brands we reach out for and the ones we don't all determine the success or failure of a product. Sales and the continuation of a product or brand are also determined by this subtle monitoring.

If you have a business, you understand your market better if you get a glimpse of the workings of their minds. That's the information you become privy to when they complete the surveys you put out for your business.

Other consumer marketing research tactics include customer satisfaction research and distribution channel audits which gauge the interest, satisfaction and overall popularity of a product for certain customer niches. Brand equity and brand association research curtails a study of brand popularity and consumer psychology over certain brands and products.

There are many other consumer marketing research tactics out there that you can learn more of so you'll never run out of ways to find what your consumers are looking for, making it easy for you to "live and deliver".
