Every good children's book should be easy for the child to read. You don't want to be using longer, more complicated words that adults might use.
Use things like:
- Short and easy names (Like Matt, Jack, Kate)
- Common animals (Dog, cat, fish)
- Shorter, easier to sound out verbs and adjectives (Fluffy, kind, swimming, running)
An example is One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.

Pictures are great to have in a children's book because they let the child see what's happening. Having pictures can also help them learn more words, because they can match the items in the picture to the words on the page. The pictures should be colorful and pretty simple.

Repetition in a children's book can help it flow together nicely. It can also help the child remember what they're reading and understand it better. Use shorter, easy to pronounce words throughout the book. An example of this is The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss.

A children's should be shorter and straight to the point. It will keep the child more interested and it will be easier for them to follow along. Something like a long chapter book might not hold their attention for very long!
