Goals

Seeing the world through the lens of a project focused my attention narrowly. A good exercise, but I found myself wanting to remain true to my artistic vision and that's tough when there are 20 photographs to make. My goal here was to shoot images that not only addressed the project's needs, but also were good enough to meet my typical standards that they have engaging subject matter, are visually engaging, and tell a clear story.

Though these fundamentals show up without conscious effort, it helps to form a language for understanding to apply them intentionally.

Rule of thirds

Very difficult to find rule of thirds compositions... the focus ends up too close to the center of the image, lacking in dynamic tension. I end up moving closer to the edge of the frame similar to the golden ratio.

Flipped class is...

Flipped class is exactly the perfect solution, except when students don't come to class ready and motivated to ask questions and share. Then it's not really using the format to it's greatest capacity.
