I would like to learn more about the process of Architecture, and how to derive inspiration if a person wants to design a structure, and how to estimate the feasibility of a design.

What did you learn on Architecture after the module?

I learned that the style of the building or land, and how it is designed, tells of the era it was created in or inspired from. Architecture is more than just aesthetic, it is a cultural symbol and a form of art that makes use of human expression. Moreover, I learned that Architecture is the concept of "form follows function."

What do you know about Architecture?

I thought of Architecture as the art of making structures. It was the beginning of a dream or a concept, which will be turned into a physical object, hence its need for sketches or visual ideas. Architecture, to me, was the basic definition of planning and designing buildings and lands.

What say you on form + function in architecture?

Form and function go hand in hand when it comes to Architecture, simply because without function, it will become more difficult designing and planning without an objective. And without form, the artist wouldn't be able to turn the structure into an art, or an extension of their creativity.

OUR LADY OF SORROWS

This statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, or the Seven Swords Piercing the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, is located in the Church of the Holy Cross, Salamanca, Spain (Provido, 2018). The statue illustrates Mother Mary’s sorrow with seven swords piercing her heart, in which the seven swords symbolize her seven sorrows, all involving her son.

Sculpture is the art of expressing ideas, feelings or characteristics by the chosen and obvious imitation of living forms (Gilson, n.d.). It is immovable for it is a solid block, carved by an unknown artist into a perfect statuary form. I find it beautiful because the statue expresses how deep in sorrow Mary is, without having speech. It frequently imitates what Mary has suffered, despite her being sinless, but because she is human, and the earth is not heaven, she must suffer before she reaches glory, and indeed she reached glory. Gazing upon the statue, I am constantly reminded of the painfulness that is integral in being human, but I am also reminded of the beauty of being one, as expressed by this depiction of Mother Mary, accepting these sorrows from the beginning, when she was told of her prophecy and its consequences.
