Although my educational choice have evolve around I have also found enjoyment by be active in society club such as Fesilitator Bitara Upsi(KeFB),PERKIM UPSI,PPWIP and others. If I have opportunity, I want to future my degree level in Biology at USM because these university is one of the Top university at Malaysia . I’m very interest in Biology since high school and even attended science fair. My grades are okey but I wish to improve it.
my journey were start when...

We were given chances to visit every laboratory that started with regenerative laboratory, infectomic laboratory, oncology laboratory .Section leader also were explained about function of equipments that have in each laboratory. .its quite interesting for me because I never seen it before. , Mr Faris and Mrs Hazliana brief about the project that I need to handle within my industrial training period .Honestly I said that I never learn about anything that related to cancer so when I give opportunity to handle that project. This is a new knowledge for me and facis had guided me so well.

Wa'a laikumusalam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Hi. May Allah bless you with good health, cherish you with long life and happiness. My name is Najihah Binti Azizan and I’m 20 years old. I am student of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI). I am study in Diploma Laboratory Technology. My favorite subject is Biology and I’m targeting to further my studies in Microbiology. I am hoping that knowledge and skills I had gained from UPSI able to applies and develop in AMDI during my industrial training. I’m not a fast learner student but I am highly motivated person. Furthermore looking forward to experience and learning new knowledge under new environment. I request for more practices in order to develop my skills .I will work harder to achieve my goal as I set myself toward professional excellent and to achieve the higher qualified certificate. I’m very thankful to God because He guides me into this golden path so that I able to learn new things about cancer on oncology and radiology in this cluster. I am passionate when handling or conduct any experiment in laboratory. My objective during industrial training is to gain as much knowledge with relevant and meaningful learning experience that I can to improve my achievement.

My first day experience at Advance Medical Dental Institutes (AMDI) are I know that in Animal Research Center there are six cluster which is Oncology and radiological sciences, Craniofacial and Biomaterial Sciences, Infectomics, Integrative Medicine, Lifestyle Sciences, and Regenerative Medicine. Oncology and Radiological Sciences cluster is one of the main clusters at Advance Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI). Craniofacial and Biomaterial Sciences also know as Oral and Craniofacial Sciences that is related science field that involving the skull and facial region which is include the mouth and respiratory structure. Infectomics isstudy of microbial infections using “omic” approaches from genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics. Aspect that involve in this study is metabolisms, molecular interactions between infectomes encoded both in host and microbial pathogens genomes, and molecular pathogenesis of diseases are some of the main interests which moves the research activities. Integrative Medicine is study that focus on combination modern medicine and traditional medicine. Lifestyle Sciences is study about non communicable diseases that are related to lifestyle. Lifestyle Sciences Cluster introduce innovative approaches and evaluate existing practices to prevent, treat and manage the many diseases that arise from physical inactivity, poor lifestyle behaviors and inappropriate dietary practices. Regenerative Medicine is study of stem cell therapy innovating gene therapy and tissue bio-engineering for regenerating injured heart, lung and bone. This cluster also focus on artificial blood substitutes and offering bone marrow transplantation for treating patients with primary immunodeficiency (PID). After I’m visit laboratory in Animal Research Center which is Oncology and radiology, Infectomy, Regenerative and Integrative. I am pleased and excited when I was given this golden opportunity to look at new laboratory equipment which I have never seen before. Consequently, I was participated in Translation and Validation of Malay version talk by Dr Mohd Fariss Leong Bin Abdullah. Those talk give me new knowledge about questionnaire, reliability, validity, follow up and baseline information. I am excited to learn new things and explore everything that I’m not familiar before and expose to reality world, hopefully I will able to apply all my experience and knowledge in further. Throughout my learning session even in short time I had obtain various precious knowledge as AMDI is one of the institutes that I believe and honored can help me improve my skills and knowledge besides my University.

New lesson

My industrial Training was full with new lesson. Every day I will learn a lot of new things. I am very thankful to God because give such as a golden opportunity for me exposed to new environment. Now, I have an idea how scientist work in real life. I still remember, even in first day of my industrial training I am already exposed to my project. I have learn how to use mendeley and my facilitator have guide me how to analyse journal point which I do not aware before.

Moreover, during my industrial training I have spent a lot of time in laboratory helping my facilitator Ms Hazliana and Mr Faris conduct experiment. From this moment I have learn and experience a lot of things through them. I have learnt several techniques in antibacterial testing such as agar well diffusion technique, nanoparticle disc testing and sample loading technique.

I am feeling very wonderful when I have a chance to conduct experiment from start until the end. I have learnt how to load sample in 96 well plates which I never did it before. Through my internship journey I have collect a lot of knowledge regarding to cancer, from the treatment until mechanisms of nanoparticles that able to be use in further in order to treat cancer.

My project was focusing on evaluation of antibacterial activity of TiO2 nanoparticle, on gram positive bacteria. Gram positive bacteria that I use is Bacillus Subtillus and Staphylococcus Aureus. This both bacteria have their own unique in order to stay survive. S. aureus is better than other human pathogen and it quickly responds to new antibiotics. Bacillus subtillus is have fermentation process that produce various enzymes such as amylase and protease.

Through this journey I have learn how to use equipment in laboratory that high performances such as biomicrocentrifuge which I need to handle with care. Others equipment is autoclave meachine to prepare Muliear Luria Agar. In UPSI I do not get this chance to fully conduct experiment due to laboratory assistant duty and most experiment in UPSI was conduct in group. So, this situasion is one of the shortage to my self because I am not fully exposed in conducting experiment.

Internship Experience

I have some sour feeling when a day to end my internship was coming soon. I will never forget my experience in AMDI where my several dreams part was built. AMDI have taught me a lot of things including physical and mental. I have learn on how to be a best researcher, professional person, stay humble with everything and always share the knowledge with others. During my industrial training in AMDI I have learn how to built myself confident and exposed myself well so that I am able to built networking with awesome people out there. I have join several talk with other researchers that I never experience before such as Dr Nor Azuar, Dr Mohd Faris Leong and Dr MV Ramanujam. I have spent my time in Microbiology laboratory, Oncology and Radiology laboratory

As a conclusion, AMDI is the best place to apply internship programme. A lot of new lesson can be learn and explore. For those who have a lot of aims in exploring researching lifestyle need to invest half of your journey here.

Summary

Internship programme has thought me a lot of new and unforgettable things on both knowledge and memories. Even I am focusing on my project but I got a lot of opportunity to expose in real researcher daily life. The knowledge that I have gained during this journey can be an applied in my life. This final report is done with contents of my experience and my tasks during the internship journey at AMDI. This sums up as a record for the time I am doing my memorable last year semester.

hai again, My name is farah syahira..
okey listen :)
Opportunity to undergo my internship at AMDI, USM allows me to apply what I had learned during my previous semester in UPSI and helped me to gain valuable knowledge and new experiences.
During my internship here, I had learned many new things and the most of the project that I was given was actually outside my comfort zone. On the first day, I was already introduced with my mini project that focus on nanoparticle and it is my first main project as an internship student. Nanoparticle seem similar with me because I am already learned in Organic and Inorganic chemistry in UPSI and it’s very helpful to me to understand the basic of my mini project. Know the basics was not enough, to very understand this project I need lot of reading ,makes literature study based on the journals and I went to library to found books that related.I got the plenty of new idea regarding the antimicrobial testing. Many did not know some of the metal nanoparticle can kill most of the gram negative bacteria and gram positive bacteria including me because of the size of the nanoparticle makes it is possible to be more effectiveness to kill the bacteria than antibiotics. Bacterial infections are still a main cause of morbidity and mortality. Moreover, the need to develop additional bactericidal means has significantly increased due to the growing concern regarding multi drug resistant bacterial strain and biofilms associated infections. Consequently, attention has been especially devoted to new and emerging nanoparticle based material in the field of antimicrobial.

I would like to give my utmost appreciation to Dr Rabiatul Basria as my supervisor at USM. She always give me opportunity to do something new that I never got at UPSI .On the the first week , I am already exposed to some activity that had been organised by USM. We participated to talk “Translation and validation of HOPE (malay version)” by Dr.Mohammad Faris Leong Iman Bin Abdullah, special talk by Dr Nur Azuar Abdul Rahim on “Critical appraisal of journal article” at ARC meeting room 1, seminar about “The Genome is a Fractal and Its Clinical application” at conference Room 1, INFORM USM main campus and attended a seminar how to produce a good questionnaire by Encik Salihin from Pusat Racun Negara. We also learned to arranged references of journal using Mendeley application guided by Mr Faris. In addition, big thanks to my facis (Mr Faris and Mrs Hazliana) for being friendly and helpful in sharing of information. There manage me to overcome my fear toward cancer .I always thought who has cancer she /he will died but there changed my perception until I would like to future my degree study in molecular medicine .

Besides that, I also get to use some apparatus and equipments when doing the tests. For example, now I know how to set the microcentrifuge according the program needed. Before this, the centrifuge in UPSI mostly being conducted by the instructor, but now I have to conduct it myself. I also experienced using different kinds of micropippetes and learn more on how to handle it. The tasks that I have to do is confusing at first but as time goes by, I can do it properly. There are lots of techniques that need full concentration and focuses. The tasks consists of techniques, apparatus and terms that I’ve learnt before in UPSI. So I’m glad that I could apply them here.

In conclusion, AMDI USM can offer a lot of knowledge and experience, the organization is most worthwhile and conductive for students to undergo an intern here. There are not just my supervisor at USM or my facis but there are like my family here. This is my life-I have everything I need inside me to live the life that I have always dreamed of. So I takes all the experiences and learned and create my own reality.

Assalamualaikum to everyone,
Alhamdullilah..all praises and gratitude to the Almighty Allah s.w.t for granting me strength and willingness to complete and accomplish this practical training at Advanced Medical and Dental Institute. My sincere and deepest gratitude goes to my industrial supervisor, Dr. Rabiatul Basria S.M.N Mydin for her great supervision, guidance and encouragement to me for complete the mini project. Without Dr. Rabiatul guidance and persistence help, this project would not been possible. Beside that, I am also very grateful to my facilitators which is Mr. Faris and Ms. Hazliana for their help, guidance and shared the knowledgement with me throughout this practical session.

Internship Experiences
Industrial training is a good experience to me as it exposed me with the real working environment. During practical training, I also learn that teamwork between colleagues is important because it can improve work efficiency.

Not only that, I also be more a discipline as every student that undergone their practical training are bound with the rule that had been set by the Advanced Medical and Dental institute. Every rule must be obliged by the student to prevent problem before disciplinary action were taken.

While from the weekly activities, I had learned many new knowledge. For example, learn subculture bacteria, antimicrobial testing efficiency, analysis of catharanthus roseus alkaloids by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)., chemical composition of human bone and toxicity assay. Not only that, I also got an opportunity to attend talk about toxicity assay that was given by Dr. Rabiatul at SIRIM and attend conference about 'The Post Genome Era' at INFORMM.

SUMMARY
My mini project help me a lot gain knowledge about Nasopharyngeal Cancer. Not only that, through the project process I learned that we have to find the fact from the journal because it contain many important information that we never think or know about it. I also learned that we have to be responsibility as I must bear the responsibilities in every job that had been handed to Dr. Rabiatul. If a job is not done carefully, it will create a new trouble and it will take time to settle the problem. Lastly, the industrial programme are strengthen my self confidence.
