The only known active volcano that erupts natrocarbonatite lava, Lengai is a volcano of interesting feats. The lava is so cold that sunlight s not enough to give it a reddish glow, so its black. There's low silica content, and the lava oozes out like water. The 2007 ash eruption marked the end of 25 years of effusive lava eruptions. Once, a porter fell in and survived, but had major damage. Lengai is part of the Great Rift Valley, which includes the dormant volcano Kilimanjaro.
