1) Are your thoughts about using online tools for writing mostly positive or negative, and why?

- In my opinion, using online tools are usually attractive for the students. They are also one of the best way to measure the progress on writing tasks. In addition to measuring, we can also give immediate feedback to our students via online tools. As a result, I've got positive thoughts regarding online tools for writing.

2) What is the most important idea/approach you have thought about today related to writing?

- Most of the teachers try to correct the mistakes students do as if they had to. However, I thought that we need to focus on process rather than product on writing. It would be more useful for both students and teachers to use online tools during process writing, which I prefer mostly. Thanks to some tools, which are quite simple to use, we, as teachers, see our students' performance by asking them to submit what is required step by step. Students can also make comments on each other's output easily through online tools. That's why, I think we need to keep up with digital world.

3) What do you think your colleagues would be most interested in exploring in a PLC meeting focussing on writing?

- I think they would be most interested in exploring web tools to use for their writing activities. I guess they will integrate these tools into their writing activities to get better results from the students. Moreover, I believe they will explore more tools to benefit at the lessons.

1) What is the value of coursebook listening activities?
- Coursebook listening activities involve standard forms of language and they are suitable for the students we are teaching. They have also embrace clear speech and they are not so ambigious for the students. Teachers sometimes have difficulty in finding authentic materials to use in the class, that’s why coursebook activities could be easier them to use as they are already prepared.

2) What is the value of authentic listening materials?

- Actually, authentic materials are invaluable for teaching listening since they involve daily expressions, and non-standard forms used by native speakers. Thanks to these materials, students will be exposed to real life language more. They are also more motivated to communicate when we use authentic listening activities. Moreover, we can show different accents of native speakers to the students to have them to familiarize.

3) How can you develop more active listening skills in your classes?

- There are many ways that we can use to develop more active listening skills. For instance, we can start with removing distracting objects in the classroom. After that we can use interesting materials suitable for their level. We can also support the listening task with warmers and post activities so that students know that they will answer questions asked by the teacher in different parts. We can also read a story and pause somewhere to ask them what will happen next to make them active listeners. Besides we can ask them to model what they hear to make them more active.

1) What is one difficulty when you are doing a listening or speaking session that you would like to explore with your colleagues in the PLC?

- Confidence. I would like to discuss how to motivate our students to speak and give confidence to them since most of our students hesitate to speak maybr because of making mistakes. That’s why we need to make them feel safe to speak as how they feel while or before speaking matters the most.

2) Give examples of major challenges your learners/other colleagues face related to listening or speaking.

- For instance, we are having difficulty ib finding authentic materials suitable for our learners’ level and needs and adapt these materials for our lessons. Another challenge is to create an environment to make our all learners perform speaking at their own level. Finally, some technicql problems also might occur at our learning places. We may not have internet connection or electricity to present our digital elements regarding listening or speaking for the students.

3) What is the most useful idea or suggestion you have taken away from listening and speaking sessions?

- Use technology as much as possible to take the attention of our learners. Support with visuals and audios to make the learning permanent and attractive so that our learners get involved in the lesson. Moreover, we need to differentiate our activities for weaker and stronger students to reach all of the students as PLC aims.

1) Choose three adjectives to describe your thoughts about the flipped classroom and explain why.

- Suspicious, motivated and confident. I’m not sure whether it will work well or not. Students may not have the chance to prepare or they may not be eager to study outside of the class. That’s why I m suspicious. On the other hand, If we assume that all of the students are prepared, we can do the tasks more successfully and when we ser our students participate in the activities, we would be more more motivated and feel more confident since we will have a feeling of reaching all student.

2) Do you have any concerns about the flipped classroom? If yes, what are they?

- What if the learners don’t do the work outside of class? Then there will be a gap between the ones doing the work and the others as the former ones will have background knowledge to be able to do the task in the classroom.

3) How do you think your colleagues respond to this idea?

- I believe they will also try to use flipped classroom because it is time-saving and efficient, thus giving extra time to practice more in the classroom. Maybe they can have suspicions regarding if students really do the work given by the teacher but most of them will respond positively, I guess.

GRAMMAR

1) What method of grammar presentation do you think is used most in your area?

- As far as I see, deductive grammar presentation is mostly used to teach as it is much easier.

2) What are the key ideas from the two grammar sessions to pass on to local teachers?

- One of them is to induce grammar rules through communicative use of the language. Contrary to deductice grammar teaching, in which main point is to make correct and grammatical sentences, inductive grammar let students to set a relationship between the meaning and the language so they can use it for daily language. The other one is to differentiate grammar activities and not to the use always controlled activities. Each student has different weaknesses and strenghts so we need to be aware of this and plan according to that. Besides we shouldn’t always limit the language use with controlled activities but we should give opportunities to produce more.

3) How do you think they will react to the ideas?

- They will probably agree with me but they will talk about some other aspects that we need to consider such as number of students and level of the students. Howeever, every problem has a solution so we will try to find ways to apply what we think.

4) How can you make your classes more communicative with grammar?

- A communicative grammar lessons give students the opportunity to practice the target grammar item through communicative tasks and activities. We shouldn’t seperate the grammar from the context. We shouldn’t limit the lessons to just introducing grammar. We should support grammar teaching with games, roleplays and discussion activities. Especially games are great since they allow students to practice and improve language skills in an enjoyable way. Finally, we should find some other ways to give opportunities to produce language more such as English Clubs, in which students meet regularly to speak and use the language they have already learnt in the lesson.

1) There are more disadvantages than advantages in using translation to teach meaning.

- I agree with this comment because translation is really old fashioned way of teaching and it doesn’t provide any visual or audial supportive elements to make the learning permanent, thus causing students to forget easily. Moreover, it is boring to apply, even I get bored using translation. It doesn’t get attention of the students so they may not be eager to participate in the lesson. Of course, it has advantages but I believe that it has more disadvantages.

2) It’s really important to teach learners how to keep vocabulary notebooks to store all the information about new words.

- It is important because they don’t remember any part of vocabulary lesson, they can revise and remember all about the vocabulary, they need to use. It also promotes vocabulary learning as well as learner autonomy. Students control and assess themselves by doing that. Moreover, most of them enjoy keeping notebooks but they may ask for grade when we check. It may also be learning habit, especially for the ones who have difficulty in finding a route for vocabulary learning.

3) Getting to know words is like getting to know a friene- you learn more about them bit by bit.

- Words have different parts inside like people. You know a meaning of a word but it has more than that. It is the same with people as they have more thank one feature, skill or attitude. You need to know how to behave, what to do with that word or person. You can’t use all meanings of a word at the same times as you cannot expect a person to show all features at once. Moreover, as the situations emerge we decide on which word to use and with whom we are going to do an activity or go somewhere. We can’t know all of a sudden. I hope I expressed myself clearly.

We always learn new things because learning is a huge world. I’m really happy that I will be a facilitator and a guide for the others in my district.
