The games were fun and the food was great (maybe more vegetarian options; I know it is hard!). 
I know this is not an easy feat at all! I agree in having dorms/ clubs sponsor for set up and clean up!
 I think conversation cards on the table might be fun ways to engage kids at your table. 
Also, I made a connection with a new student whom I had never met before (PG). He was so lovely! So-thank you!

Students were far more interested in texting their friends at other tables than they were in my efforts to make conversation and help them try to get to know one another. 
Maybe there can be questions at the table --ice breakers?
But phones make all efforts futile.
One student was watching a football game on his phone.
And yes, I asked them to put their phones away several times and to be present.
I actually felt bad for you and others who put so much effort into creating the event and activities.
