Emotional Support Colleagues

I am so very grateful to have colleagues who have become friends. We listen to each other when we need to complain. We help each other when we can't remember what day it is or where to find something. We have each other's backs when there is a sign-up sheet that just came out. ;) Thank you Kira, Kate, Megan, & Carmen. I am a better teacher because of you all!

No Sugar!

I've made it 24 days without any sugar. Well, except for the peanut butter I put in my smoothie one day, and the chick-fil-a sauce I had the other day (it's hidden everywhere!). But still. This sugar addict is really proud!

MOY diagnostic

One of my MTSS students finished his MOY test and his scores went up so much! At our meeting last week, we talked about how to focus and not just take random guesses. I told him it was ok to stand up, to stretch, to run outside for a few minutes if he felt like he wasn't focusing. So proud of him for recognizing his lack of focus on the BOY and teaching himself some skills to help him focus on MOY and score so much better!

Student growth

I have a student who has been working so hard with her mom and a tutor for math and jumped up 4 grade levels! She was so discouraged and was just allowed to fail quietly in her seat based school, but she made math her main goal as a new Visions student

and succeeded beyond what any of us hoped! I am so proud of her!

Volunteering!

Over winter break, I really picked up my weekend volunteering which feels so rewarding. Currently helping out at Salvation Army, Jelly's Place animal rescue, and soon to start Habitat for Humanity. I'm bringing my kids along too to help out!

Hiking Club Support

I really appreciate CT support with the Visions Hiking Club. This week we had a group of 40+ people trekking through the hills at Lime Ridge in Concord. Without Megan A., Matt, Debbie and Carmen showing up for hikes (and others at times), I would be too intimidated to keep this club moving along.

I'm impressed with the group of students in the Journey Through Books 4/5 class. They come to class prepared and almost all of them participate each class and complete the homework. I don't mind the prep for class because the reward of hearing their book discussions is so worth it.

Growth

One of my students has a new IEP. With the structured literacy class that is being offered as well as learning to use her accommodations, she was able to score on grade level in iReady in the MOY for the first time ever (after 4 years).

Zumba/Wellness

Our Zumba group has been so helpful in ensuring my physical and mental health. I have gotten to know different teachers better and have had so many good laughs! Thank you Carmelita, Debbie, Karen and Lenore!

Writing Class

This is sort of a personal and sort of a professional win. For SI, I am switching from teaching 5th grade writing to middle school tier 2 math with the new semester. When I was teaching my last writing class to my sweet little group of 3-4 regular students, one of the girls said mine was her favorite class and she was so sad it was over. It just made me feel good inside, and affirmed that I make a difference in students' lives. I'd call it a personal win!

Emotional Security and Academic Growth

I have a 5th grade student who I started working with at the beginning of last year. She has been through A LOT in the year and a half that I've been working with her. Both of her parents have abandoned her because of addiction and her aunt has become her legal guardian. Thanks to Visions, she has been able to take advantage of counseling and group support. She also says finally feels like she has a teacher who believes in her for the first time in her life. You can see the impact of this emotional security shine through in her academic progress. During our first reading fluency assessment last year, she was only able to get through a first grade passage. At our latest fluency check-in, she is reading at a 5th grade level with good comprehension and prosody. It's amazing what having emotional support and stability can do for cognitive development!

iReady Improvement

I recently shared with a 2nd grader the results from his iReady MOY and when he saw his growth (63 points), his jaw dropped! I could tell that he was impressed by his own work and that he was proud of what he had accomplished.
