By: Alyssa Gluck

The American dream, in my opinion, is achievable if people put their mind to it. The American Dream is the pursuit of what makes you happy (money, family, fitting in, etc). There is equal opportunity for everyone, and equality for all, regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, race, or whatever else. Everyone ideally should be able to achieve their aspirations and goals.

In June she married Tom Buchanan of Chicago, with more pomp and circumstance than Louisville ever knew before. He came down with a hundred people in four private cars, and hired a whole floor of the Seelbach Hotel, and they day before the wedding he gave her a string of pearls valued at three hundred and fifty thousand dollars" (Fitzgerald 75).

Consumer culture is bombarding us with the message that materialism will make us happy. Many immigrants come to America in hopes of making money and living a life with materialistic things.

Everyone dreams of having a family to come home to, who are all living a happy life as well as you. Many people come to America hoping to be able to have a better, happier life with their family. There is a lot of pressure from around the world to have a family, and to have someone to leave their legacy to. Having the 'perfect' family, is what many people want and hope for.
