The best way to deal with this refufees crisis is to make sure they have adequate housing before they enter the country. This is straightforward. I don't know why the government figured that affordable housing wouldn't be an issue for newly arrived immigrants since it has been an issue for Greek residents for years in many areas all over Greece during the last years because of the economical crisis. This all makes me think that there was no planning or forethought about bringing the Syrians to Greece. It was all about filling quotas and dealing with issues like housing later. They ae human beings!

In order to save your life, you might first speed away by whatever conveyance possible.

But eventually: a border. And it is here that you must walk.

Why? Because men in uniforms will demand to see your papers.

What, no papers? It doesn’t matter. Get out of your vehicle. Stand over there.

Wait.

Now, papers or no papers, your life as a refugee genuinely starts: on foot, in the attitude of powerlessness.
