1. I chose KASPER
2. I chose KASPER because I grew up going go to KASPER so I wanted the experience to come full circle.
3. I’m responsible for watching and playing with the kids, making sure they are safe at their school.
4. The goal I’m doing is quality education
5. Quality education does not just mean learning math, science, and reading; it dives into what does school mean to certain students. As a KASPER councilor I would be working with kids after their school day, helping them de stress from the day by playing games, talking, drawing, or helping with homework.

1. My CEP aligns with goal number which is quality education because KASPER with connected directly to an elementary schools that encourages kids to stay active, do homework and be creative. Which to the UN standard promotes life long learning and inclusivity.

3. “The increase in single working mothers and need for child-care” this article was about how child care can increase development in children while also helping the single mother by lifting a weight off her shoulders. This relates to my CEP and the UN goal 4 because child care is a way to help children develop faster and tap into a more creative side by being around all types of kids.

4. Can after school child care also make children more sympathetic and better humans since they learn life lessons much earlier?

1. I have started volunteering for Kasper in currently have 22 hours.

2. I love volunteering at Kasper so much because I love playing with the kids and talking to them. I have built a connection with all of them by doing all of this.

3. While volunteering I usually just play with the kids or color with them and talk to them. I do feel like I’m making a difference and a lot of the kids confide in me and tell me things that they wouldn’t tell their friends and they enjoy talking to me and I’m helping them build their communications build skills.

4. Community members are directly impacted by my volunteering because these kids were going to be part of their community just like I was when I was in Kasper. KASPER changed me for the better by enhancing my communication skills, and making me a competitive person with all of the activities that they do.

5. I have everything ready for the service contract I just don’t have my signature so hopefully by the next padlet post I will have that.

6. Time card not signed yet.

Local
State Orders Chicago to Fix Special Education in Detention – NBC Chicago

This article highlights the difficulties faced by special needs children in Chicago public schools. The article explains that since an investigation in 2018 that exposed CPS special education system for being negligent to special needs children, there has been improvement but more is needed. Since the investigation there has been a higher budget for special education, more experience required, and more. However issues still remain such as lack of counselors, no social work being provided, and underpaid staff.

This article is credible because it was written in 2021 and has a large amount of statistics and research attached to it. This was written by a local news network and has many websites and sources to fact check statistics.

My volunteer experience ties into this topic because there are special needs children that attend KASPER. While there, they have extra supervision and have their very own person to make sure that they are never left out or are put into harm's way. I am especially close to a girl named Addie. Addie is so sweet and loves to play on the swings with me, jump rope, or play with chalk. I always make sure that addie is having a good time because it's so easy for her to feel not included.

As a local society we can make sure our kids receive the best education by not judging others' pace in learning and finding new strategies for those who need them. Creating a safe environment for a child to be themselves, sets them up for greatness in the future because they can learn to speak their mind and know when to ask for help.

This has been an ongoing problem in CPS and there have been several solutions brought to light however they have all not brought progress. What is the root of this on going socioeconomic issue that is prolonging the route of success for these kids?

National
Crises converge on American education | CNN Politics

This article is explaining the decline in America's education post- pandemic and comparing the decline to the amount of money spent to help the education system throughout the past 20 years. The article sheds light on the decline in test scores in younger children 2 years after not being in school for the majority of 2020. The article also highlights the amount of money invested into the education system however, it remains stagnant and at this rate dropping.

This is a credible source because it is a trusted news media outlet. It has bias towards the democratic side but does explain a republican side within this article. This article was written in 2022 so it contains very reliable information.

My volunteer experience relates to this topic because when I'm volunteering I have times that I must help kids with their homework to make sure if they want to do it before they get home, they do it right. What I've seen helping them is that they have a very similar curriculum compared to me when I was in elementary school. Given this circumstance I think the true reason for lowering test scores is the pandemic and it will take quite a while until the youth education system returns to what it was.

Ways as a society we can help this issue is to create free tutor facilities for those who struggle in certain areas to go to. Having a place for someone struggling with learning is a great first step for that child to see a different perspective in their learning. We always need to encourage our children to love education so we can become a better functioning society.

Why are standardized tests the only measurement for intelligence in education? There should be surveys for teachers, creativity tests to measure all kinds of intelligence in children. Measuring kids only through tests does not create a reliable result.

Global
The State of the Global Education Crisis | UNICEF

This article explains how the pandemic has disrupted educational systems throughout the world. It shows how countries are rebuilding their education to catch up with the time lost and that this has become a global issue many countries face.

This is a credible source because it is a global charity created to help the world and specifically younger generations of the world. This article was created in 2021 so has a lot of current data from Covid-19. There is no apparent bias within this article, only the agenda to help the world.

My volunteering relates to this because KASPER is something that was lost during the pandemic and a lot of kids missed it. Being a part of KASPER brings back a normal pattern for the kids and ties into their education because they can get back into a normal routine they were once used to.

As a society we can improve these conditions by having our children find normalcy in everyday activities once again. Covid disrupted the growing education of many children and in order to regain that again society needs to accept the pace children are learning at now and realize, with time it will improve.

Is there a plan for the world to improve the education of children?
