First, it allows teacher to watch and review again his/her observation for that certain child. Second, it records the whole observation. Lastly, it helps teacher to note down the real outcome that goes on the observation based on his/her objective.

However, generally speaking, recording a video would be the most encompassing kind as it captures more of what happened. Recording a video would allow teachers to review what happened and note other details which they may not have noticed the first time, as it happened. Teachers could rewatch the video while focusing on different aspects/domain each time, and even check for other clues in the environment or event which could further explain the behaviour. In addition, this could also be one way of communicating a child's progress with parents. I think that this is especially useful for young kids who are developing quickly. Parents would definitely appreciate seeing their child's firsts which they might've missed due to it happening at school.

It provide mostly the same purposes of what other documentation methods do. Teachers are able to review back the video in his/her own time, noting down a detailed account of the children speech/ actions and not missing out minor important details.

It helps to recall the specific event, records children's voices/responses as well on how they express their self through gestures, movements (body language).  In my own opinion, it is more suitable to use as a tool in observing children's development as it gives you a full package of the different kinds of domains in learning that you might want to observe.

On a day-to-day basis, I think anecdotal records is a good way because it allows me to record a specific learning area or significant action that tells me on child’s development, interest, skills, needs. Based on what I observe on this specific learning area, I can plan for follow-up strategies and improve the child’s skills or build on his/her interest. Videos are good as sometimes by looking, we forget what really happened. I also able to recollect the data if I need to do some discussions or as a proof if there is any incidents that occurred and it is more detailed compared to other methods. However video recordings are quite tedious to do because we need the camera and time to record the children. I think it depends on what we want to  observe in terms of the developmental of the child and also the day to day basis. Sometimes we can record but sometimes we can't. Therefore we can use anecdotal record on the event that has occurred so that we can get the significant moments that could tell us about the child  development, interests, skills and needs.

To me i think video recording is more suitable for young children because we are able to captured what the child is doing / saying. It will also allow us as educarers to review and re note what other details about the child that might not be recorded during the first time. We will also check on other points while watching the video. Teachers can also share the video with parents on how they react/ accomplish something. And also helps us to note down our objective.
