Maddie's relationship with her mother is very stiff and planned. Everything relates to her medical issues... even the time that they spend together alone.

Maddie's relationship with Carla is a genuine relationship. It is as if they are friends in addition to being patient and nurse.

Maddie's relationship with the new nurse is terrible. She will never be able to take the place of Carla. Maddie resents her being there, even though she is necessary.

I hated being stuck in my house during Covid, and that was far less than seventeen years. I missed simple things like just going to church or going to Walmart (because Mr. Swain would not let us leave the house for ANYTHING). I did drive over to my mom's house and sat in my car and talked to her in the yard. I cannot imagine my whole life being like that. I even missed coming to work!

The most intriguing character in the story is Maddie for me. I have never met anyone like her before, so I imagine that I would have a lot of questions for her if we could ever sit down and talk. I would want to know what it was like living a life of complete isolation.

For me, it is easy to relate to Maddie because we are able to see her interactions with others using technology. Even though she has a very unusual situation, we are able to see that she has the same thoughts and feelings as a normal teenager through her messages and conversations with Olly.

Maddie's relationship with her mom has drifted since she has met olly. The new nurse and Maddie do not have a good relationship because maddie does not like the new nurse.

Maddie's best friend is Carla and Carla understands Maddie when she's down and upset. The new nurse's relationship with Maddie is horrible. She does not like her and she will never replace Carla. Maddie's relationship with her mom is good but sometimes they bump heads. Everything they do has to relate to her medical problems.

Maddy's relationship with the people around her can be understandable. She loves her mother and spends some time with her for a while but she doesn't as much as she used to because of the relationship with Olly she developed overtime. The friendship she had with Carla can't compare with any other friendship she could ever experience, Carla had been there for most of her life and throwing it all away for a dumb decision she decided to do, she got Carla fired, and her mother hired a new nurse that she does not get along well with, since in her state of mind, no one will ever be able to replace Carla.

Maddie and her mom have a plain relationship with each other. It's mostly about medical issues. And the only other thing Maddie and her mom talk about, is the games they play on their 'mother-daughter game night'.

Maddie and Carla's relationship is a very loving relationship. Carla is patient with Maddie. She relates with her situations.

Maddie's relationship with the new nurse is horrible, they barely speak to each other, Maddie doesn't like her because she's replacing Carla, and the nurse only checks on her for medical reasons.

Maddy's relationship with her mother is very obvious and in the story because for the eighteen years shes been alive her mother is the only one she has interacted with besides her Nurse. In the story it says her mother is a doctor which gives an explanation on why their relationship is always about Maddy's health and nothing more. Maddy's relationship with Carla is like two best friends but a friend who takes care of her also. The new nurse seems to give Maddy many problems and they have a very bad relationship because shes all strict and not friendly.

I would miss family and friends. Being inside for your whole life takes away most of your excitement. Being outside, hanging out with friends, eating what you want to eat instead of what you're allowed to eat, or going to school makes the time go slower.

Like any teenage girl, a crush would eventually be developed and jealousy would have a role in this story time line. There is always a phrase that "There is always someone else", in Maddy's case it's true but also not true. Olly is in love with Maddy and the other girl who patted his shoulder was just a partner, still Maddy felt something that she couldn't explain, jealousy. There are always misunderstandings but no one can ever escape the feeling of jealousy over someone somethimes.

Being inside the house for so long would be isolating. The feeling of being lonely is something no one likes to experience, but Maddy with SCID, she can't escape her reality and she must stay inside because of her condition. Maddy said "I am not lonely, Mom, I am alone", those are different things" Although no one could relate to what Maddy is feeling or what she is living through. It must be tough, not being able to be outside and feel the sun on your skin, is such a warm feeling when it's a good day. Not being with friends is such a drag by being alone all of the time. I would miss the feeling of being able to know how it felt to be outside.
