In the religious myth, The Contending of Horus and Seth, Horus (the Egyptian god of the sky) battled his father, Seth (the Egyptian god of chaos) for the empty Egyptian throne. Horus won the throne, and was the king of the gods. Ancient Egyptian pharaohs were thought to be part god themselves, so they were called "the Living Horus".

Religion was the most important thing to the ancient Egyptians. All means of science, technology, and religion were based upon the same set of beliefs. Even logic didn't matter. For example, Nut (the Egyptian goddess of the sky) was the sister and wife of the earth god, Geb. She was the mother of Isis and Osiris (brother and sister and husband and wife) and Horus and Seth (Uncle and nephew and brothers). But pure logic didn't matter to the Egyptian society. Their religion was the one thing that they based their entire lives on.

Ancient Egyptians also had a number of rituals to be carried out. Foundation rituals were only a part of the pharaoh's job. He would get two posts to determine the spot of the temple, digs a hole to make it sturdy, places bricks at the edges, and puts in plaques of silver, gold, and copper. He sprinkles chalk for purification of the temple and it is ready to be built. Other rituals that included everybody were found to take place 5-10 times each month. These celebrations were for a specific god, and Egyptians would have a parade. Other rituals were the Festival of the Valley and the Festival of the Nile.

Another thing that was important and well known about Egyptian religion was mummification. Early Egyptians used to bury the dead in pits in the desert. However, the heat and sand of the desert would dehydrate the bodies quickly. Egyptians found that embalming the dead bodies and wrapping them in linen before placing them in coffins was a better way to preserve the bodies. That process is what we now call mummification.
