While a more "modest" yet somewhat more revealing appearance was seen as desirable in the 30's it's questionable whether this played a positive or negative role on the norms of womanhood. Older people disapproved of Rock N Roll which was very popular in the youth of the age. Disliked it because it had black origins and introduced Black culture into popular culture. Rock N Roll originated from Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Rock n Roll became the dominating music choice the 1950's by the younger generation; but it was disliked amongst the older generation due to it's black cultural origin into the U.S. culture. -Noha
