Paulsen, Gary. Woods Runner. vol. 1. Ruth Wright Paulsen. 2010

90-120
the travelers reach the shore of the Hudson River in New Jersey, across from New York City. The muddy bank of the river is crowded with men and boats, and Abner takes them to a friend named Matthew who will take Samuel and Abner across to the city. Annie is made to stay behind with Matthew's men, although she makes Samuel promise to return.

Samuel: very good at hunting and has learned to be on his own since he was young because his parents don't pay too much attention to him.
Mom: is always worried about Samuel but allows him to do his thing because she knows that he is able to take care of himself.
Dad: wasn't introduced as much as the mom has been but he is a hard worker and does whatever he can to take care of the family.
Annie: Annie is a young eight year old girl who was forced to watch British soldiers murder her family in cold blood.
Abner: a man that helped Samuel get to New York and secretly helped the Americans during the war as part of the rebels.

I found Abner to be very interesting because of the way he was willing to always help out samuel without anything in return.

I think the biggest theme of this book is to have perseverance. No matter what it took, samuel is still fighting to find his parents and i think there are a lot of authors out there with the same type of theme.

Gary, Paulsen. The woods runner. 2010.
