Confusing and sometimes contradictory - different perspectives.

Lord of the rings when you were a kid vs a teenager for instance

One of us keeps them as feels like its a lack of intelligence if can;t finish a book and must revisit at some point or have failed!

Another person said she thought it was sometimes that she was arguing with the author throughout and that's why she wants to stop reading. Sometimes you doubt whther what they are doing works/rings true with you as a reader. 

Once you've lost your patience with an author that's it! 
We expect author's to be consistent

There are dying languages that are mostly only verbal communication now. 

I fell in love with English as a written language 

Until you leave your country I don't think it has the same significance or is the same soothing comfort. Language acts as a barrier - you can be safe and only communicate with certain people. So passages that were for the protection of women which is not necessarily necessary in the same way but are now used for a more nefarious purpose.
