This picture that I have created is suppose to represent Oedipus in the play Oedipus Rex. I chose to portray Oedipus and his relationship with knowledge, because I feel he really has a deep struggle with knowledge and how it influences his life and how he is often in denial of knowledge. For example I had hands over the eyes to represent Oedipus shielding himself from information. This is because Oedipus sees more knowledge as worse because in his heart he knows the truth about the oracle’s prophecy. I chose to change the picture to black and white because I feel it reflects Oedipus’s choice to reject knowledge ‘leaving himself in the dark.’ I chose to use the play Oedipus Rex because it gave me the strongest images when reading it and its so natural how the images come to mind when reading the play. I hope when people look at this picture they get the idea that Oedipus is in denial of knowledge and wishes he he knew less.
