They worked in very crowded rooms with terrible oxygen to breath in but they suffered through it because they needed to get payed. Not only were the conditions bad, the owners were forcing children to work for them and they to, barley got paid. And for both adults and children  they had to work very long hours with no extra pay.
 The people knew that it was time for a change. Some of the workers started to go on strike, some held a petition, and others just protested. They did all this so they could get better conditions in the working place. They were going against child labor because child labor is cruel because kids are not allowed to be kids. They were also trying to get paid more because the workers got basically no money for working abot a 12-15 hour day.
