This image doesn't have any patterns asides from the stripes on the flag, symmetry, texture or leading lines, though the stripes in the American flag could be classed as leading lines as they are leading the viewer to look down and Barack Obama

It has a shallow depth of Field - Barack Obama is in the foreground and smiling at an unseen camera while the American flag is the background, but is blurred

The general feel of the image is that it's the start of something new
I like the fact that the American flag has the wind rippling through it and that it's not a painted background/still
It makes the image more interesting and realistic

The focus is on Barack Obama who takes up 1/3 of the image according to the rule of thirds while the American flag takes up the rest

The side lighting is good and makes it so that he isn't overexposed 

It highlights Barack Obama who is the focus of the photo and, at the time, the world. I thought it was interesting when I first saw it. It had Carrie Fisher in her iconic Princess Leia side-buns and white gown but in her bun, there was a biro pen stuck which plays tribute to her quirky character, but it also references a busy secretary who usually would put pens in their hair for safekeeping or if they're scatterbrained which directly links into how Carrie Fisher really is
It sets a tone to the book and gives off the impression that the things discussed in the book are going to be a shock because no one would ever expect something like that from her
It also adds a touch of realism to her - it shows that she is a normal person like the rest of the world despite her stardom and fame

The image is interesting in the way that its framed -  the photo is a sort of profile shot of Carrie Fisher, part of her face is visible, but the image is more focused on her iconic buns and the pen in it and takes up at least a third of the image 

Half of her face had been cropped out

It has good lighting and isn't overexposed.
