Outcomes-Based Instructional Materials(OBIMs) Development
Marie Jean P. Salas
BSEd Science

" Best Fit Instructional Material for Remote Learning"

I. Introduction

As a college student and future science educator, it is critical to study, explore, and create instructional materials by identifying hypotheses about instructional materials, understanding their rules in the educational process, identifying various types of instructional materials, and appreciating their value to not only students but also instructors. The purpose of this reaction paper is to share information and insights that would be helpful to other aspiring educators in order to have a background knowledge and skills to enhance for academic purposes and for the future career.

II. Synopsis

Academic Instructional Materials are a part of the educational process. It's used to help students meet their learning goals. It aids the teacher in improving and enhancing the teaching-learning process, as well as the learners' progress and growth. When choosing materials to use, keep in mind the various guidelines that will be needed in order to be reliable and productive in their application. As future science educators, we must be aware of the various methods for selecting and using various instructional materials.
It is important that we use suitable materials for our students, or materials that are appropriate for their learning levels, styles and ages. It should also always in line with the learning goals we set to them. Even if all of the instructional materials are good and useful, they will not be effective unless the instructor has sufficient knowledge of how to use them. The teacher together with the instructional material must be coincide to be effective. It's not nice if the instructor has to rely on the instructional materials all of the time. Remember that no instructional material can compare or replace a teacher.

Learning theories on the creation of instructional materials, can provide us with frameworks on how to use content, build instructional materials for the learning-teaching process, and design materials considering the different learning strategies and needs of learners.
The first is the Situated Cognition theory, which is based on the idea that understanding and doing are inextricably linked. The second is the Sociocultural Learning Theory, which focuses on how our environment plays an important role in a student's learning progress .The ADDIE Model, which consists of five factors such as analyze, design, develop, implement and evaluate, is the third. This information is useful when creating instructional materials. The fourth is Merrill's Instructional Principles, which are focused on the various ways that learning can be encouraged.

The fifth is Individualized Instruction, which is based on four concepts and revolves around the individual and how they learn. The Blooms taxonomy of Learning Objectives, which is heavily based on the cognitive domain, is the second to last. The SAM Model is the final principle, which allows for more versatile designs and rapid adjustments as learning progresses. These theories helps instructor to decide on which instructional materials best fit their learners.
The role of instructional materials is reflected by the curriculum of education and being influenced by it and instructional materials provide lots of learning opportunities for learners and efficiency for instructors.

III. Reaction and Insights

Printed and duplicated materials such as books of problems and exercises, books for experimental observations, laboratory manuals, and textbooks, are the best fit for remote learning in my opinion. This is the best material to learn from, particularly in remote areas. It would be difficult for learners to process learning without the accessibility of technology and availability of electricity. In our current situation, it is more convenient to have books rather than use technology for the entire year of learning because it can damage learners' eyes and expose them to unproductive online activities on social media.

IV. Conclusions

As a potential educator, I intend to expand my knowledge and conduct in-depth research into how I can develop more practical and efficient instructional materials that will be useful in the teaching-learning process so that I can provide a high-quality education to all of my students.

One thing of designing instructional materials that needs to be strengthen is teachers' ability to understand the learners' learning needs as well as their learning styles. It's also crucial to understand the new generation's trends in order to develop the necessary and effective strategies for creating instructional materials. Lastly ,an instructional material that reflects and focused on the curriculum is a must to be strengthen.

V.
