Persuasion focuses on the topic of marriage from a woman’s point of view in the early eighteenth-century. It brings up topics like how a woman should chose a husband- based on wealth or class, or based on love. In her time, marriage had little to do with love. Women (and the woman’s father/family) responded to proposals based on the mans wealth and position in society. But, in this novel, Jane threw this out the window and explored the effects of basing decisions like this on anything but love.
