It is caused by a bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Some common symptoms of gonorrhea are discharge, burning sensation during urination, unusual sores, or even a rash. If gonorrhea is left untreated it can cause life-threatening complications which could lead to sepsis. It also can cause infertility as well. For treatment, the CDC recommends a single dose of 500 mg of intramuscular ceftriaxone. If ceftriaxone cannot be used, then an alternative antibiotic can be used.

If you are pregnant and go in labor and the baby passes through the birth canal the baby can develop eye infections or even lose eyesight.
