I either look up the words on the online Merriam Webster dictionary or in a near by dictionary. I also will sometimes annotate next to the words if I want to remember and make note of something. Finally, as a good reader, I make sure to pay close attention to the text making sure to get every bit of the story or article. For example, the book I'm currently reading, Please Look After Mom, is extremely easy to visualize, with the exception of peeling skate for ancestral rites. But even then I can somewhat visualize it. When finishing the book, I can oftentimes imagine various alternate endings, although they are usually rather dark. And, sometimes, in those alternate endings, I can create and incorporate characters that did not exist in the original story. For this reason it's nice to read.
