I gave a presentation on textures in music. I added links to the music samples I included. If I were presenting this to children, I would remove most of the wording from the slides and focus on the words' morphology and the music samples. As a task, I will give them a list of songs to play and have them sort them by the textures they can identify in each song. I had fun doing this.

Pitch, the building blocks of music. A melody creates the structure that the harmony gets to play with. The distances between two or more notes played at the same time can create visceral (and sometimes physical) reactions. The consonant harmonies of Canon in D can lull you to sleep while the dissonant tones of jazz create tension and playfulness.
