Energy Consumption is the use of energy.

Many gas furnaces in the 1970s and 1980s were about 60% efficient. Now they are about 98% efficient. The efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps has increased more than 50% in the last 30 years.

Energy Conservation is any behavior that results in the use of less energy.

HOW TO CONSERVE ENERGY:

Replace light bulbs with more efficient ones.

Install insulation so your heating system doe not have to work as much.

Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.

Take short showers instead of long baths.

Drive sensibly-don't waste gas

Get energy efficient doors and windows to conserve heat.

Get energy efficient windows that use more than 1 piece of glass to insulate.

Place trees, shrubs, and other plants to provide shade and keep out the cool wind.

Keep the shades closed to have extra insulation from the outside when it is cold.

Even a 2 degree difference in your thermostat uses less energy. CHANGE IT AND JUST WEAR A SWEATER.

Buy appliances with the Energy STAR brand.

Plug home appliances (TVs and DVD players) into power strips and turn the strip off when the appliances are not in use.

Use solar panels.

Insulate your water pipes.

Air dry your clothes.

Walk to the store instead of driving.

TURN OFF THE LIGHTS!

Buy a new water heater that is more efficient.

Fix leaks in pipes and sinks.

Use low temperature settings when drying clothes.

If you are driving, try to carpool with others who are going to the same place.

Purchase fewer goods.

Purchase good with not a lot of waste from packaging.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!
