What Worked Well.....

The best thing about this lecture on Intorductions was that it was so relatable. To date I hadn’t felt as reassured as I did in that lecture. While in most other lectures we talk about how to do everything the methods etc. here we talked about how making mistakes isn’t that much of a deal, it’s ok not to be perfect, especially in your very first TP lesson.

I also thought the TED talk was very inspiring. She talked about her students in a very hopeful way, the way she motivated her students to do well was nothing short of amazing. One thing that really stood out was her marking technique if a student scored 2/20 it was +2 and a smiley face not -18 , this focused on the students capabilities to do well not the fact they got 18 wrong.

What I learned.....

In the amount of time in the class I gained some very valuable lessons .

First of all I realized the importance of a hook in a lesson opening. I learned that a hook should be included in the lesson opening but the lesson opening itself should not be heavy in content. A hook should grab the students attention hoping to engage them for the lesson.

I also learned that Assessment for Learning is the most ideal way to assess learning in the new Junior Cycle. It is a way in making sure students are continuously OK with the learning ans should be worked into every lesson.

On top of this I found out that every key skill doesn't need to be incorporated into each lesson, it’s ok to incorporate these over a scheme of work and actually probably works more effextived

At no point was I confused and I understood what I have to do for each of my assignments.

I was relatively engaged throughout the lecture today, at no point did I find my mind wandering.

After leaving the lecture I couldn’t stop thinking about the story on the teacher coming into the class and jumping on the table with a wrench in his hand for example in woodwork class. I thought this was a fantastic Idea hooking the students from the get go. From on top of the desk all students could see him and he would ask them what he was holding it’s functions etc. A fantastic way to ran their attention and learn at the same time.

I will also be trying to use my sense of humor in the classroom, just because I’m a teacher does not mean I have to lose who I am as a person so Is I’ll try to incorporate it into the lesson as much as I can .
