I think these historical shifts have influenced how society views the importance of Childhood today, for example childhood is recognised as an important stage of life and development and we focus on protecting and safeguarding children. Children who receive any form of harm is seen as serious in modern childhood, while historically this would have been a norm. Previously, Childhood was focused on economic value "how much money could they make factories" etc. Now the focus is on education and supporting children's individual needs, viewing childhood as a separate stage to adulthood.

There are modern parallels where in childhood is shaped by Social expectations, for example children have access to online spaces and are expected to use the sensibly, accessing age appropriate content and report concerns, this reminds me of the small adult expectation of the past, just with modern day tech. Children have tests from a young ages in primary school throughout education, while in the industrial era children would be trained to be better workers.

Today's focus is children developing their areas through play and stimulating environments, whether that is education or safe environments outside of school, such as hobbies. Childhood is now driven on keeping children safe and offering them chances to learn and development when possible. People have more knowledge about the laws, safeguarding and child protection today and it is their job to adhere them. Children being at risk of harm today is seen as a major concern and other professionals become involved for the best outcome. Everyone's focus today is to be able to push children to their potential and create fun learning experiences.
