What were they? They were 5 year plans to transform the USSR from an small scale agriculture based nation into an industrial power (catch up to the west).

What were the goals? The goals were to create collative agriculture by taking away small land ownership. Peasants would freely join together and work a certain piece of land in kolkhoz. Also to expand production and industrialization in cities. The small agriculture business would produce enough for the cities to sustain themselves and continue production.

What were the outcomes? In reality peasants were forced to work on the land and meet unnatural demands from the state. It caused a total redistribution of land, livestock, and resources which enraged farmers, who retaliated by killing livestock, burning crops, and moving to the cities. The resulted in millions of peasants starving to death. With an increase of factory jobs and low price of living, a tight regime was placed that killed many soviet citizens. Stalin's political enemies were killed or sent to work camps. It rivaled nations with high unemployment and capitalist economies.
